As part of our mission at Nature Science, we’d like to educate the crowd so that misleading information and thus fallacies about cannabis wouldn’t create further confusion and a barrier for potential customers in experiencing the positive effects of products extracted from this wonderful plant.
First of all, it’s important to set straight the common misconception that cannabis as such and so products made from it are all intoxicating. The word “cannabis” is actually a broader taxonomic term referring to a genus of flowering plants consisting of 100+ plant species, which include both hemp and marijuana plants. Marijuana is indeed well-known for its psychoactive effects, as it contains high levels of the phytocannabinoid Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), meanwhile hemp plants - from which both CBD and hemp products are extracted - contain high levels of the non-psychoactive phytocannabinoid Cannabidiol (CBD) and very low levels - below 0.3% as according to laws from around the world - of THC. Therefore, CBD oil and hemp oil are not only non-intoxicating but also entirely legal and safe.
As mentioned above and as the title suggests, both products originate from the same plant: hemp. Yet, they have very different characteristics and so their effects can vary as well. CBD oil is extracted from the flowers, leaves, stems, and stalks of the plant and it mostly consists of CBD with less than 0.3% THC, while hemp oil is extracted from the seeds and contains omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids and other nutritious antioxidants with little to no THC or CBD at all.
CBD oil has proven therapeutic benefits, such as:
-treatment of medical conditions such as epilepsy, schizophrenia, multiple sclerosis, and arthritis
-reduction in anxiety
Hemp oil is used in both consumer and industrial products with the following benefits:
-source of plant-based protein and rich in fatty acids and antioxidants
-reduces severity of skin conditions such as acne, eczema, or psoriasis
-could reduce PMS or menopause symptoms
As the Visual Capitalist puts it, “considering that the popularity of cannabis consumer products has only exploded over the last decade, initial confusion surrounding them is to be expected, and the true potential of these products is yet to be realised”.
That’s why we’re here and working on bringing you closer to this world, step by step.
